hairballs and what I did last night
Ugh. So tired. I shouldn't still be tired. I got home from Joe's last night around 4:00 a.m., spent about 15 minutes trying to get to diaryland (no such luck, obviously), and then went to bed. My sister called at the completely unholy hour of eight in the morning, and asked if I could watch her daughter for a while today. Normally I would have said yes, because Chloe is adorable and generally pretty fun to take care of, but she wanted me there at 10 a.m. and that wasn't happening. The only response I could get out was, "I just went to sleep." Over and over and over again, until my dad decided that I meant "no," and informed my sister as such. I feel kind of bad, but hey, I was tired. Don't disturb me when I'm sleeping unless you've got chocolate or you want to crawl in bed with me. The first one is even a little iffy, actually.
Last night was interesting. Joe and I went to Elephant & Castle, which is an English pub-type restaurant in York. It's really fun inside, and the food was pretty good. They don't have a very large vegetarian selection, though.
*sigh* I must interrupt this entry to go clean up the three hairballs that Gizmo just left in the hallway. I'll return shortly.
Okay, that was nasty. Let's continue. My healthy eating jag was pretty much abandoned last night, as I knew it would be. I have even less willpower than usual when I'm eating out. I got the vegetable lasagna, which sounded good, but was actually kind of foul. I don't dig whole slices of tomato buried inside my lasagna. Joe "made me" get dessert - which is my way of soothing my conscience when I know full well that I wanted it. Salisbury apple crumble... mmm. Now I want some oatmeal and ice cream. It's better than you'd think. Really. Adrienne (a friend of Joe's) was out server, and she hooked us up hardcore. Free appetizer, free dessert, free drinks. We left her a $23 tip, which was actually more than the bill, because she rocks.
After dinner we went to Borders, where I bought two calendars and some truffles. The calendars were a dollar each, so I got Harry Potter and Eloise. I became extremely irritated at the establishment, because there is no longer a "Now Hiring" sign up. No matter how many times I apply, they will not hire me. They hired Robby, who has inordinate amounts of metal bits protruding from his face. They hired Dave, who is just a scary, scary boy. Am I not frightening enough? Do I need more piercings? Should I dye my hair black, paint my face white, and quote Marilyn Manson when asked my hobbies? FUCK YOU, BORDERS!
Argh. Anyway. When Borders closed, I went to pick up Amanda from work. I hung around and drew on some napkins until she was ready to go, and then we drove back to her house and sat in my car for about an hour, talking. She likes a boy - actually, "likes" is a grave understatement - and she needs to tell him. Soon. At around 1 a.m., she went inside and I scurried back to Joe's. Adrienne came over, and we all just sat around eating TastyKake cupcakes and talking about... things. The various topics actually slip my mind right now, though. It was fun. And then I came home, as I already explained.
I'm going up to see Adam this afternoon, so I have to get myself ready. Meaning shower, shave, paint toenails, etc, etc. I have this strange compulsion to wear my jeans inside out, but I'm not really sure if that would work.
Oh, yes. On a much less pleasant note, Adam (my brother) had his sentencing this morning. Five months to two years, with immediate work release. *sigh* Considering, he got off pretty lightly, but it still hurts.
