if you not Deutsch, you no watch movie!
Das Boot. What can I say? It was indeed in German. We had to sit really close to the TV so that I could read the subtitles, though, due to my broken glasses situation. Only one other person from his class showed up, which was weird by fine by me (of course). It was a good movie, by all accounts, but it was loooong. Mucho extendo, seor. And I'm pretty sure I just spelled "seor" wrong, but that's of no real consequence. Pat would definitely like this movie, I think, since he's all Captain War and stuff. The only real complaint I have is that whoever subtitled this thing must have been drunk and bordering on brain-dead. Large chunks of dialogue weren't subtitled at all, which just irks me to no end. I, the viewer, would like to be able to comprehend what's going on and what the characters are saying to each other. When people chatter on in foreign tongues and there are no helpful subtitles to keep me clued in, I feel slighted. Honestly. I felt like I was missing very important pieces of dialogue, and I was very upset. Harumph.
Also, a lot of the subtitles were misspelled. Ha. When looking at the competition, I have no idea why I and all of my friends don't have high-paying, professional-type jobs. We're smart kids - much smarter than the drooling morons that subtitled this film. So what gives?
Oh. And the title? Das Boot? It means The Boat. I was disappointed. The Boot sounded way more fun. I laid out a scenario involving a Nazi Mother Hubbard and her giant combat boot headquarters for Adam, which I think amused him quite a bit. Me so funny. Only not. More like "me so deluded."
I have my own fun, okay?
And there was no Hitler. What was that all about? Everyone was all "Hiel Hitler! Hiel Hitler!" but there was no footage of the man himself? Come on. I was looking forward to some Hitler action.
"Hour Follows Hour" is definitely up there on my top 5 to 10 favorite Ani songs. Oh yes. I realize that this topic came completely out of nowhere, but I'm listening to the album that it's on, so it's not really that random. If you're me. But in the spirit of the almighty random, I think I'll make up that list. Of my top 5 to 10 favorite Ani songs. Because I'm bored and Emily is hogging both the television and my personal space. Woo.
Amanda's Top 5 to 10 Favorite Ani Difranco Songs:
1. Virtue
2. Grey
3. Swan Dive
4. Hour Follows Hour
5. Napoleon
6. Gravel
7. Dilate
8. Swing
9. Tamburitza Lingua
10. Carry You Around
Wow. That was really hard. Ani has a vast collection of songs to choose from, even when you're only using the studio albums (as I was). The list was about 30 songs long originally, but I narrowed it down. Obviously. These are in no particular order.
My right hand/arm hurts. A lot. In a very bad way. Carpal Tunnel? That would suck. Here's hoping it's not carpal tunnel and is, instead, due to the fact that I am short and my desk is not so short, causing my wrists to bang against the edge of the desk in a most unpleasant manner. Yeah, I'll stick with that.
No more typing for me tonight. It's hurt-inducing.
'Night.
