the end of an era... (hold me)
It's over. For real, for good. I'm talking about Buffy, of course, may it rest in peace. The finale had its flaws, but I loved it just the same. There was humor. Humor! It's something that's been sadly lacking this season, so it was nice to see it make a small guest appearance. There were hints of the old Scooby Gang in there, and Angel acting all 12-years old? Hilarious. Spike's drawing of Angel? Even more hilarious. Anya didn't deserve that... but "Bunnies. Floppy. Hoppy. Bunnies?" cracked my shit up. The ending was very open, which is okay. What is there to say, really?
I think Spike is going to shanshu, because what happened to him? Definitely death. He was dusted right and proper, as they say. But he's on the cast list for the next season of Angel, and there are only two (known) ways that that could be possible. Either Angel & Co. resurrect him as a human like Wolfram & Hart did with Darla, or he shanshus in Angel's place. The vampire with a soul will become human after he averts the apocalypse and saves the world, basically. That's just what Spike did tonight. I'm sure Angel meant to wear the amulet and get all averty with his broody self, but Buffy wouldn't let him. So Spike did, and now he's dusted but scheduled to reappear. I know it's a concept that only exists in the world of Angel, but since Spike would be showing up there it would still be contained, you know? People who don't watch Angel will continue under the assumption that Spike is gone, his dust coating the Sunnydale Crater. So yeah, I'm putting my odds on the Spike shanshu, and it'll be fan-fucking-tastic when/if it happens. Angel: "But that's my prophecy! *broods*"
Ha. Oh, and Trogdor the Burninator showing up during the D&D game? I laughed so hard that I felt nauseas. Go Strong Bad, you're famous.
I'm mad that Kennedy didn't die, because I loathe Kennedy more than, well, anything, ever. And I do have to say that, while I've enjoyed the past two seasons, "The Gift" would really have been the perfect series ending. However, I did love this one. The real one. Because how could I not? My show is gone. I'll never see another new episode again. I can't spend the very last episode EVER complaining about things or feeling bitter. So I just basked. Everyone liked my Stake Cakes, even though they didn't come out quite right. After the show was over, we got into a big debate about whether or not a chunky (read: normal-sized) Slayer would be stupid (Joe's POV) or wonderful (my POV). That irked me, but I'm over it.
Still basking.
