the road sign should read "falling cats"
I love getting my kitties all doped up on catnip. They all have individual reaction - it's really amusing to watch. When I gave them their catnip mice, they each did their own thing. Gizmo did this frantic, speed of light licking thing... Giles grabbed it between his paws and rolled onto his back, holding it like a little teddy bear... Rufus became a docile little love monkey, ripe for the petting... and Tango rubbed her face on it and then did this slow motion rolling thing. She was up here a minute ago, and I gave her some nip to eat (because I'm such a dealer, yo). This prompted much toe-flexing and slo-mo rolling around on her back. She's such a pretty cat, but not incredibly sociable. More so than Gizmo, yeah, but a table leg is more sociable than Gizmo. So getting Tango all nipped up makes her very friendly and petable. It's nice. I like to pet patterns into her fur - it's so thick that when you run your finger over it, a solid indentation is left behind. So unless she messed them up, she should be walking around with several racing stripes. Vroom, kitty.
And keeping with the cat talk, Giles had an incredibly traumatic experience this evening. He FELL off of the little banister thing that runs up my stairs, the whole way down to my doorway. To help you understand the gravity (no pun intended) of this situation, I have provided the following illustration.
Seriously, how scary is that? He probably fell a good 10 feet. He seems fine - trotting around like usual. I was petrified that he broke his neck or something, but I should learn not to underestimate the kitties. Falling is a minor danger for cats, I suppose. But it was intense trauma - on my part, anyway. He fell because the newspaper he was sitting on slipped. It slipped because I put it there weeks ago, and tonight he decided to sit on it for a while. I feel very bad and will never put newspapers or other shiftable things on the banister ever, ever again.
Other than cat drama, not much went on tonight. Just as I predicted, the Joes and I took Buddy for an even longer walk than last night, and then I came back here and watched two episodes of Buffy and knit. Excitement abounds here in my little world, I tell you. The dog is so tired that he's down in my mom's room instead of up here - and since he's ALWAYS up here at night, that's a definite sign of doggie fatigue. It's cute. He went in the river again, full body immersion style this time, and it's really amazing how thin he is under all that fur. I guess he's sort of on the small side for a retriever-type dog (60 pounds as of the last trip to the vet), but damn. Last time I checked, he was still damp.
Adam didn't come over because he spent the evening doing work for a member of his dad's congregation, and as a result he was possibly more fatigued than my dog. He's was doing stuff for her because she just broke her leg or something, and because he's seriously the nicest person on the planet. It's something that I really admire about him - his incredible kindness. I mean, yeah, sometimes he's too nice to people and lets them walk all over him, but mostly he's just an amazingly good person. Being the raisin-hearted, cynical, sociophobe (is that a real word?) that I am, the amount of kindness he shows to people really just blows me away.
Gar. I'm so tired. I need to mail some things to LVC in the morning, and then call Cumberland Valley and ask them to send a transcript to HACC. Would someone please explain to me why I need to send them my HIGH SCHOOL transcript? I thought that stopped mattering once you were actually in college. But in any case, I suppose it must be done. Hopefully my mom will take care of the little bit of money that we still owe LVC soon, because they won't send out my transcript until it's paid. Bastards.
Anyway. Sleep time. 'Night.
