canap?
Look, it's an update! An update, guys! Call the papers, everyone come and see! Update!
Seriously, it's a news-worthy event anymore. I do apologize (especially to A, whose guestbook prodding was a much-needed reminder that I do still have this thing and that there are a few people who actually read it), but instead of offering various and sundry excuses I'm just going to get to the meat substitute of it all.
How're things going up here?
Well, they're going, I guess. Adam was here from Tuesday night 'til this morning, at which point I had to take him home so he could get to work. It was a sad time, the taking home. Boo. I hung around at the house in Dauphin for a bit after I dropped him off, visiting with the animals and such, and then zoomed down to Carlisle to see my dad. I left there around 2:30 and found 83 N, which is the highway that I generally use to get home, closed. Now, for people with a better grasp of directions this would perhaps not be a problem, but for moi, who has the internal compass of a tiny bird struck by lightning, it was a Code Red situation. But a few phone calls to Mom and then Dad revealed that I could indeed get to the actual road home (283) without utilizing the closed portion of 83 at all. Alternate routes - go figure. It took a little longer, mostly because of detoured traffic from the highway, and it sucked nuggets because my car still does not have a functioning air conditioner and it was nearly 90 degrees today, but I got home.
I ended up swinging by Circuit City and picking up The Girl Next Door DVD before heading back into the city, because with Adam gone I'm back to relying on moving pictures and printed words for companionship. Sad, I know, but TGND is actually a really good movie, and I've been wanting it for a while. I watched it earlier and it's just as funny the second time around.
Oh, I also got some fun-fun frustrating financial aid news today. Big surprise there. My mom had gotten a letter about the parent loan she took out for the remainder of the tuition and housing expenses, informing us that the first half of the loan would be dispersed August 25th. When she called the financial aid office today to confirm this, she was told that since they don't disperse overages until the entire financial aid package has come in (meaning Stafford loans, grants, etc), and grants don't generally arrive until the end of September, we will not be receiving the money I need to pay my rent and bills until early October. This is the ber-suck, because that means that my parents have to cover everything until then, and they really can't afford to do that. Gah. Stupid school. I should probably call them on Monday and make sure they know I'm getting some scholarship money from the SciTech thing as well. I don't imagine it'll do any good, but hey. Can't hurt anything at this point.
In other school news, I have new student orientation this coming Thursday and Friday, and then I start classes on Tuesday the 7th. My first day of class will be from 9-4. For one class. My second day of class will run from 8:15 to 5 for two classes, one from 8:15 to 9:45 and one from 10-5. Then Thursday is nothing, and Friday is 10-5. Oof. It should be quite an experience if nothing else.
And now I am officially too tired to continue. You know how I can tell? My spelling is shot. My fingers are going all groihaskjbfibd when what I really mean to type is "Good afternoon, Professor Bonvenuti."
(I've never had a professor by that name, but in my mind he is a rabbit. A very stately rabbit wearing a two-button jacket and a red silk tie. He teaches history. I'd like to take his class.)
End.
