I finished
The Amber Spyglass tonight. The end was so sad! I mean, I cried. A lot. I suppose that doesn't say much, because I cry at the drop of a hat, but still. I cried when Lyra had to leave Pan to go into the land of the dead, too. I'm such a sap. I try not to show it too much, but I really am.
The His Dark Materials trilogy, which the above mentioned book concludes, is excellent. I highly recommend it. I'm sad that it's over, because now I don't have anything to read. I have books, of course, but I've read them all. Hopefully I'll score some christmas money from relatives and then it'll be straight to Borders for me. I want to get Rufus Wainwright's first album, and a bus load of new books. Then I shall put the CD on repeat, cover my bed in the books, and drool while I fondle their precious pages.
*laughs* I'm reminded of Indecent Proposal as I read over that last sentence. Burt Reynolds (or whoever played the rich guy) paying me a million books to sleep with my wife. Funny, and yet... freakish.
An amusing snippet of conversation:
Amanda: box.
Me: unbox
Amanda: to remove from a box.
Amanda: we shall not unbox then however.
Me: no?
Me: no.
Amanda: right.
Me: first we have to get them into the box
Me: which is the hard part.
Amanda: we will keep them in there...no contact with children
Amanda: they will learn.
Me: because before they are in the box, we cannot unbox them at all.
Amanda: but we will only unbox them after they learn that their children have their own minds.
Me: and that they can no longer rule their lives, as much as they would like to.
Me: then, they shall be unboxed and left to live in peace
Amanda: in their native habitats.
Me: forever.
Amanda: unless they pull the same shit again
Me: well then it's just back in the box
Me: bam!
Amanda: then they will be placed in a smaller, more stuffier box...never to be unboxed again
Me: because by then they really should have learned their lesson.
Amanda: exactly
Yes... so that was kind of long and pointless.
