artistically speaking
Sometime I upload drawings and things and link them from my entries. I thought it would be convenient to gather them all in one place, just in case anyone actually wants to see this stuff.
Red pen girl one (cat girl) I went through a period where I drew lots of these. They're kinda cute, I think.
Red pen girl two (indian style girl) It's just like the title says - a girl sitting indian style. How exciting.
Black pen girl one (kneeling girl) She's my favorite.
Black pen girl two (hair pool girl) I don't like this one so much, but the hair is kind of interesting.
Black pen girl three ("I've got a cat" girl) I think the cat is cute. And the one hand that's showing turned out pretty well, considering that hands are satan.
Blue pen girl one (Tori girl) She kind of looks like Tori Amos. This was intended.
Blue pen girl two (disco girl) Mason asked me to draw this. I like her boots.
Belt Girl I like this. The scan isn't that great, though.
Scarf Girl I don't use markers often, even though I have a butt-load of them. This is why. And this is fairly decent, actually. It's old, but I still like it.
Magazine Girl I copied her from a magazine. It's not incredibly realistic, but hey, realism isn't much my thing.
Priestess Another attempt to color freehand over (well, technically under) a pencil sketch. I think it came out well. I'd go so far as to say that I actually like it a lot. How novel.
Elf Girl I really like this picture for some reason. This was inked with a brush pen, and I think the linework is pretty fun. And no, I have no idea what she is. Colored version to come.
Pigtail Girl Aww, I want to be her. (The dark area under her nose is a septum piercing, in case you can't tell. Dull pencil + tiny details = indecipherable mess.)
Portrait: Adam I guess this is a portrait, since I tried in a half-hearted way to make it look somewhat realistic. Done in Painter Classic with my Wacom tablet.
Self Portrait Uh, this is me. Sort of. Done in Painter Classic with my Wacom tablet in less time than it took to do the portrait of Adam (hence the fact that this one isn't as good).
Henna and Bracelets Her eyes are fucked up, and it got all smudgey, but I still like it. Again, small details do not mesh well with dull pencils. Or sharp ones, for that matter.
Star Tattoos This is more of a finished drawing than a sketch, I guess. I like it. Her hand is too small, but at least it's somewhat well-shaped. I love me some stars. Colored Version
Snarl I've very recently fallen in love with Adobe Illustrator, but I don't really know how to use it. So I just do stuff like this. I like her, I think she's feisty. And I want her undies.
Kneeling Girl Another foray into the world of Illustrator. Which I love, but cannot use properly. Alas. I enjoy what it turns my crappy drawings into, though. She's cute. I like her socks.
Sitting Girl Wearing Flip-Flops My second attempt at working with Illustrator, and the first decent one. I like her quite a lot.
Singer I should link to this one after the sketch version, also, but again: whatever. Inspired by Catatonia's song "Road Rage." Dunno why.
Anarchy Illustrator is my eternal love. It helps me make somewhat small and messy pencil sketches into almost polished images. Amazing.
Bear Hat Girl I own this hat. I'm not anywhere near this cute, though. Sad.
Smoking Girl I don't smoke, so I apologize if the cigarette is less than perfect. Weird tattoo. I sort of like her hair and her boots.
Classy Martini Girl I like this one a lot, especially her nose. Dunno why. Once again, the reason for the crappy martini is that I don't drink and as such have never seen one before in my life. I mean, I've seen pictures and stuff, but pictures are a poor substitute for having one in front of you for reference. Or for being a raging alcoholic with a penchant for frou-frou drink, thus having a great well of personal experience to draw upon.
Who's our little patriot? Be cool - wear red, white, and blue, and plaster your entire body with the American flag! Only Nazis wear anything else, after all. Note: this is so completely a joke that it almost ceases to be funny.
Girl with Giant Kitty I wasn't thinking about it at the time, but the cat reminds me of a savannah cat. It's not the same color, though. I like this picture a lot, and I don't usually feel that way about things that I draw. So... miraculous. Her left arm is too thin, but nitpicking isn't good for the soul.
Dress + Jeans = Yay! Some people don't like dresses worn over jeans. These people are horribly misinformed and should be shunned like lepers.
Swimsuit 1 She's so sugary sweet that I want to plop her into my tea. Awww.
Swimsuit 2 Her tattoo says, if I remember correctly, "swim." There's a distinct possiblity that I'm wrong about that, though. Also notice that her bathing suit forms the Japanese flag. I would totally wear that if I wasn't so fat.
Babies Nasty, icky, disgusting little hellspawn. And yes, that one kid does have a bra on his head.
Amanda L. This is sort of supposed to be my friend Amanda. I totally made up the design on the shirt, but now I want one like it. Alas. The necklace is the formerly mine, currently hers "Glass Testicle."
Turtle Shirt Adam This is Adam, wearing a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles t-shirt. I also made up that design, and the faux Japanese writing below Michaelangelo's head is indeed just gibberish. I wasn't feeling up to hands.
Turtle Shirt Smoking Boy Again with the Ninja Turtles shirt and fake Japanese, only it's Leonardo this time. This kid kind of reminds me of my younger brother for some reason. That can't be good.
Naughty/Befuddled Chipmunk Did he just finish using it or did he find it that way, perhaps tucked under a shrub someplace? The world may never know. (Yes, I am quite disturbed. I apologize.)
Miscellaneous Creatures Various little things that don't merit their own links, including the new layout monkey who will haunt your dreams until you go mad. Isn't he sweet? Eskimo Willow is in there, too.
Percy My former English professor, with whom I often converse via email, just got a new kitten. She sent me pictures, so I drew him. The first time I met him he clawed my hand to a bloody pulp.
Giles My Giles kitty. He's the nicest cat in the entire universe.
Gizmo My Gizmo kitty. She's insane.
Samson This is Adam's beagle. It looks a lot like him, amazingly.
Dog Icon Just a little puppy icon thing. Meh.
Kitty Icons I'm so smitten with these. I just think they're too damn cute. I'm tempted to make them into Day of the Week undies, actually.
Fishie Icon Blub blub blub. Just a little fish icon. Dunno what I'm going to do with it.
Cutie Pie We all know how I feel about little Asian girls, right?
Shark Shirt Adam Adam actually owns this shirt - it's just one item in a large and varied collection of Pearl Jam apparel. I chose it because it's very easy to draw. As I'm looking at this now, lots of flaws are jumping out at me, but overall I think it's okay.
Stars and Garters Okay, well, there's only one star, and while there are technically four garters you can only see one. However, I stand by my title. This is larger than usual to accommodate the increased detail; if I made it any smaller, the fish tattoo would be a blurry mess. Neither tattoo was planned or on the sketch, but I like them quite a lot. The larger of the two was inspired by the ubiquitous swimming koi, but no reference was used for either.
Poppyfish I was struck by the urge to draw someone who I do not actually know. It was interesting. And I really like how this came out, too, so I may do it again sometime. Perhaps even as part of a series of my favorite Diaryland people. Only time will tell.
Paper Dolls (one two three four) I made these custom paper dolls for my friend Amanda's birthday. I like them a lot, but they took fucking forever to make. If I ever make another set, I'll do things a bit differently. Drawn and colored in Adobe Illustrator 10.
