I guess they're not proud after all
Straight from the horses' mouth, folks: I'm nothing but a big, fat burden. Me living at home a burden, me trying to go to college is a burden, the fact that my job doesn't give me any hours makes me a burden.
Oh, my dad. When will he learn to lower his voice? He talks like he's trying to wake up the Chinese, even when he's having a "private" conversation with my mom in their bedroom. And unfortunately I'm not hearing-impaired, so I get the pleasure of hearing what a big waste I am.
I believe his exact words were, "She's a sweet girl, I love her, but she's a bigger damn burden than any of my other kids." Bigger than Adam, who needed $35,000 to post bail when he got caught selling pot. Bigger than Teddy, who keeps floating in and out of prison like it's his job. Thousand-dollar-borrowers, drug addicts, alcoholics, juvenile delinquents. Bigger burden than all of 'em, I am. Pretty impressive.
...
Fresh blood looks like tears, the way it rolls. Kind of beautiful.
