why my TV Girl Crush should run back into the arms of Joss Whedon
So I was watching Angel this afternoon before class -
Five by Five and
Sanctuary, to be specific. The episodes in season one where Faith makes her reappearance. After class I watched my tape of the new Tru Calling that aired tonight. It was better than expected for TC, which basically means that it just didn't make me cringe or weep (much), but afterward I was still disappointed. You know why? Because I spent the afternoon watching Eliza Dushku NOT SUCK. Amazing. I have this odd loyalty to actors and actresses from Buffy and Angel, because they're a part of something I love to bits and so I feel compelled to watch them in other things. And usually that's fine, but seeing Eliza on such a sub-par show is just sad. Especially after watching her kick ass on Angel.
Of course, since she is my supreme TV Girl Crush I'll most likely continue to watch until the show is mercifully axed, and then I'll follow her wherever else she goes. Much like I watched a hideously cheesy ABC Family movie just to see Nicholas Brendon (Xander) play someone's gay cousin. And like I saw the stupid Scooby Doo movie because Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy, of course) played Daphne. But I much prefer them in their Buffy and/or Angel roles, if given the choice. Which is why I think Eliza Dushku was dumb to not jump onto the spin-off wagon after the end of Buffy. She went from playing a bad-ass, multilayered Slayer with actual personality to playing a morgue attendant with a disturbingly flirtatious relationship with her brother and the ability to spout horrific dialogue while repeating days. The only thing these two characters have in common is Eliza's undeniable hotness, but Faith is hands down the better gig. No contest. Especially since they're going to hook her up with Jason Priestley in an attempt to boost the ratings. Like Brandon Walsh has big drawing power or something.
In conclusion, you should all go watch Five by Five and Sanctuary right now. Especially because the former treats you to Wesley all trussed up and tortured. Mmmm, Wes tied to a chair. Minus the blood and stuff, I'm all for that. Wesley is my favorite Angel guy, and definitely the male counterpart to Eliza's TV Girl Crush position. A brainy British demon hunter (with glasses!) tied to a chair is the stuff dreams are made of. But not mine, unfortunately. Mine are always very unpleasant. Dammit.
And I'm rambling. So, to sum up my day: TV, transcript business, Creative Writing, TV, online diary. We had a few local writers come in tonight to make presentations and take questions; it was predictably boring. I'm so burned out on writing. Creative writing, anyway. I just can't get into it. Same with drawing, and my SECOND stupid oil stick still-life that I have due on Monday. It's like all my creativity has been sucked out and sold on the black market. Urg. I hope they sold it for a good price.
And yes, this is indeed the only CD I've been listening to lately. It's excellent. You should check it out.
