keep your fork - there's pie!
Adam and I made a lemon pie tonight. A pretty tame way to spend a Saturday night, but we're domestic like that. And also, I'm on the rag so sex is unfortunately not an option. Pie seemed like an amusing alternative. I was all revved-up to make it, because cooking/baking/kitchen stuff makes me happy, but the end product is... well, not bad, but not great. I'd say it's acceptable.
Ha! You know, I got a letter from PCA&D about two days after my portfolio review that read:
Dear Amanda,
We are pleased to inform you that your portfolio is acceptable.
There was more to it, of course - pleasantries and deadline reminders - but that was the letter's main agenda. To tell me that my portfolio is "acceptable." Now, I'm glad to hear that, but seriously, could they have picked a less enthusiastic word? Acceptable. It doesn't suck, but it's not stellar, either. The lemon pie is acceptable, as far as pies go. And that's okay for a pie. But I don't want my portfolio to acceptable, dammit. I want it to be SPECTACULAR! Except it's not, so I guess I should grab onto "acceptable" and hold it tightly to my breast in appreciation.
Anyway, ever since I got that letter I've been using "acceptable" a lot more in everyday speech. Especially around Adam. It's become sort of an in-joke, which it has now ceased to be since I told the entire world about it via this little white box. Whatever. It's not like I'll be running into any of you, the unnamed audience, while browsing at the grocery store or anything.
I finally sat my butt down a while ago and drew what will become my stupid oil stick still-life. I was coerced into it by the pom-pom chair; my subject (a pomegranate juice bottle with a dried-up carnation in it) is up on a shelf above said chair, so I got to lounge in it while drawing. It was a very comfy situation, let me tell you. I may have to start doing that more often. I'd probably draw more.
What can I say? I'm seduced by comfort.
