boo to car accidents
I was sitting in Joe's living room tonight at around 12:30, knitting and watching the last two episodes of Buffy on their very large television. The phone rang; it was for me. Adam was calling to tell me that he'd fallen asleep at the wheel on Front Street and ended up hitting the curb and then a tree. My first reaction was to go to wherever he was, just hop in my car and get there as soon as possible. But he said that his mom was on her way to pick him up, so I just sat and worried and tried to keep my shaking hands from unraveling the change purse that I'd been knitting. He said that he's fine, just very shaken up, but I think my heart stopped several times nonetheless.
Now I'm home alone, feeling very sorry that I kept him here so late and even sorrier that he didn't just spend the night. But mostly I'm just glad that he's okay, and I'm looking forward to smothering him with affection at the earliest opportunity.
I think he told me about a dream he had recently where he was in a car crash and died. If this is the universe's idea of a funny joke, well, I am thoroughly unamused. The last thing I need is dreams coming true.
