chock full o' linky goodness
Oof. My arms, they are so sore. Adam and I went hiking at
Hawk Mountain yesterday, and apparently climbing big big rocks induces muscle soreness. Whoda thunk? My legs are fine, but my upper arms are definitely feeling the burn. I lack upper body strength in a big way, so I guess that's why. I have legs like the Incredible She-Hulk but arms like a 98-pound weakling. It's kind of interesting.
I love, love, love Hawk Mountain. If I lived closer to it, I'd be there every day. Here are a few pictures:
The view from one of the lower lookouts.
The view from the left side of North Lookout - pretty much the top.
The view from the right side of North Lookout.
To the right lies The Slide; to the left, Sunset Overlook (my personal favorite). Over the little hill is the remains of a stone building of some kind - I think a blacksmith's shop. That big root in the center totally looks like a snake.
Me standing on top of a big pile of rocks on the way up to Sunset Overlook. You have to climb like 12 times that before you get to the top. I lurrrrve climbing rocks. I do not, however, lurrrrve this picture because I look really fat. Which is not surprising because I am fat. But still.
It was a a great way to spend the day - I want to go back sometime soon and do the River of Rocks trail. It's a 4-miles hike that takes you down to, obviously, the River of Rocks. You can see it in the first picture - it's those little streaks of white down among the trees. I also kind of want to do this thing that's happening in June, but I don't know if that'll happen. It's reeeeally early in the morning (read: 5:30 am), but sounds like it would be awesome. You go up to one of the overlooks and watch the transit of Venus pas the sun. It hasn't happened since 1882, so... 122 years. I doubt I'll attend, even though I'd love to. Boo.
Today I wanted to take my bike out to Wildwood and ride around the 3-mile loop, but apparently my bike is still in the shed at the old house. I'll have to take a trip up to Carlisle this weekend and get it. Maybe see if my dad wants to go out to lunch or something while I'm there. He's taking the split really hard, and I know he's lonely there by himself... I feel bad.
Le sigh. I've been writing this for like three hours. I'm so easily distracted.
In closing: Go Austria!
